The Bais City, Oriental Negros government, has allocated P2 million
for ozonized drinking water to be given free to indigent families
living in coastal barangays starting next month.
Mayor Hector Villanueva, however, denied allegations that he
is using the project for political advantage in the May 14 elections.
He clarified that it had been conceptualized last year yet
but the budget was approved only recently.
The water source is from the Tina-an spring in Bais. Villanueva
said every family is entitled to received 15 gallons of water every
week. Beneficiaries will be identified by the City Social Welfare
Development. Villanueva said the project is in line with the vision
of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who was presented with the
project marker during her recent visit to Bais.
Villanueva said two ozonized water refilling stations will be
provided by the city at the City Hall and the road going to Barangay
Okiot. Beneficiary families will have control cards for refilling
to prevent unauthorized individuals from taking advantage of the
program.*MA
