Stormy campaign ahead
for Villar, others in Bais
BY ALEX PAL

Bais City Mayor Hector Villanueva is no Santa Claus but he, like the song, is making a list and is checking it twice to see who's "naughty or nice."

Come May 14, several politicians seeking public office will not get a single vote from him and his supporters, he announced at a press conference. First on the list, he had said, is Rep. Emilio Macias II, who is running for governor.

Villanueva said he was irked by the congressman's attempts to stop the mayor's project of lot distribution to beneficiaries in his city.

Call center giving
benefits to workers

The vice president and general manager of a call center company in Dumaguete City belied reports their employees are receiving low pay.

"Beyond just the wages, we offer a lifestyle and other benefits to employees," Maulik Parekh of TeleTech said.

He added that their wages are extremely competitive in Dumaguete and they will yet hire more than 600 employees.

Inventor donates eco-kalan to GK

A couple active in community service and advanced environmental causes donated yesterday eco-Kalans to households of Gawad Kalinga 2 Community in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

Inventor of the eco-Kalan, Rebecca Arrieta-Vermeer and her husband Kess said her invention is a portable stove that produces very little smoke, achieves 95 percent combustion in minutes, uses 70 percent less wood fuel, and capable of using waste for fuel such as coconut stems, husks and its other parts. The Vermeers are members of the Chilcotin Log Church in British Columbia.
