Sijuijor celebrates
month of registry

The National Statistics Office and the six municipal civil registry offices in Siquijor province are observing the National Civil Registration Month on the theme "Civil Registration: A Global Concern."

This is to emphasize and demonstrate the global significance of civil registration for Filipinos.

Highlighting the celebration are various activities including a conference for the municipal civil registrars and MCRO personnel to discuss issues and concerns pertaining to civil registration operation and services.

Lectures and symposiums on "Civil Registration System of the Philippines" will be conducted in various schools/colleges in the province and during Pre-Marriage Counseling seminar for couples. Brochures and leaflets containing questions on the registration of births, marriages and deaths as well as updates pertaining to new laws enacted are also given to participants.

These include Republic Act 9048, or that authorizing MCRs to correct clerical errors in the civil registry documents and change of first names in the birth records, and RA 9255, allowing illegitimate children to use the surname of their father, amending Article 176 of Executive Order No. 209, or the "Family Code of the Philippines."*RG
