The National Statistics Office and the six municipal civil registry
offices in Siquijor province are observing the National Civil Registration
Month on the theme "Civil Registration: A Global Concern."
This is to emphasize and demonstrate the global significance
of civil registration for Filipinos.
Highlighting the celebration are various activities including
a conference for the municipal civil registrars and MCRO personnel
to discuss issues and concerns pertaining to civil registration
operation and services.
Lectures and symposiums on "Civil Registration System of the
Philippines" will be conducted in various schools/colleges in the
province and during Pre-Marriage Counseling seminar for couples.
Brochures and leaflets containing questions on the registration
of births, marriages and deaths as well as updates pertaining to
new laws enacted are also given to participants.
These include Republic Act 9048, or that authorizing MCRs to correct
clerical errors in the civil registry documents and change of first
names in the birth records, and RA 9255, allowing illegitimate children
to use the surname of their father, amending Article 176 of Executive
Order No. 209, or the "Family Code of the Philippines."*RG
