The vice president and general manager of a call center company
in Dumaguete City belied reports their employees are receiving low
pay.
"Beyond just the wages, we offer a lifestyle and other benefits
to employees," Maulik Parekh of TeleTech said.
He added that their wages are extremely competitive in Dumaguete
and they will yet hire more than 600 employees.
We are into the Phase II of development which will include
additional programs on commerce and business hotel, medical clinic,
and health care, among others, he said.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and
TeleTech recently signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation
of a P5-million grant for an English-Proficiency program for three
years.
Parekh said they are targeting "near hire" employees, or accommodate
those who were not immediately hired for lack of English skills.
These near-hires will be trained and given a second chance for interview.*JG
