Tourist arrivals in 20 towns and cities in Negros Occidental in
2006 reached 678,805, initial data from the Provincial Tourism Office
show.
The total figure was based on the numbers submitted by local
government units, including Bacolod City, except for Himamaylan,
Binalbagan, Candoni, E.B. Magalona, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Isabela, La
Castellana, Manapla, Moises Padilla, Pulupandan and Toboso. Based
on the PTO report, the tourists include foreign, domestic, overseas
Filipino workers, and excursionists.
For 2006, Bacolod had a total of 211,199 tourists; Bago, 62,955;
Cadiz, 15,666; Escalante, 57,966; Kabankalan, 22,286; La Carlota,
27,752; Sagay, 60,966; San Carlos, 18,190;
Silay, 96,362; Sipalay, 32,344; Talisay, 2,809; Victorias,
377; Calatrava, 74; Cauayan, 8,114; Hinigaran, 29,894; Murcia, 8,999;
Pontevedra, 8,065; San Enrique, 6,994; and Valladolid, 10.
Mambukal Resort also has not submitted its final tourist arrivals
data, but last year it reported 167,495 tourists. The provincial
government is eyeing the expansion of the Mambukal Resort by building
high-end facilities for tourists,
In 2003, Negros Occidental hosted 682,434 tourists; in 2004, 774,562;
and 2005, 711,469.*NLG
