Negros braces for sweep

With its tankers creating the biggest waves at the Panaad Olympic Pool, defending champion and host Negros Occidental stormed into the overall lead in both the elementary and secondary divisions as the Western Visayas Provincial Athletic Association Meet heads to the homestretch in Bacolod City.

Spearheaded by undefeated St. La Salle swimmers Miguel Villanueva and Kiefer Piccio as well as Dominique Balinas and Carmela Nava, Negros Occidental took 110 out of a 120 possible points for swimming that boosted them to the top of the championship table at the end of Day 4 of the six-province meet.

Miguel Villanueva and Kiefer Piccio of Negros Occidental left little doubt of their Palarong Pambansa gold medal potentials as they powered Negros Occidental to overall honors in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet swim competitions.

With Villanueva and Piccio snaring five individual golds each, Negros took three of the four swimming crowns staked in the two-day competitions at the Panaad Olympic Pool.

Negrense aquabelle Dominique Balinas, a double-gold winner in last year's national Palaro, capped her bid with three individual golds and two bonus victories in the relay event, while teammate Carmela Nava of St. Joseph-School La Salle also picked up three individual golds.
