School official's inhibition
from Escalante polls sought
IT'S STILL SPECULATION, COMELEC SAYS
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Escalante mayoralty candidate Melecio Yap yesterday said he is calling for the inhibition of the city's school district supervisor Evelyn Arnaiz from any role in the May elections because she is the cousin of another bet for mayor and the sister of a councilor seeking reelection.

Yap said Arnaiz is the first cousin of Alice Barcelona who is running for mayor of Escalante and sister-in-law of Dante Pamatian who is running for re-election as councilor.

He is against Arnaiz having a free hand in choosing the teachers for poll duties, Yap said.

Priority should given to DepEd-funded regular teachers and not to locally funded teachers, Yap also said.

There should be an impartial selection of teachers for poll duties in Escalante, he said.

Jessie Suarez, provincial elections officer, said the concern of Yap cannot be acted on by the COMELEC until all candidates in Escalante have filed their certificates of candidacy. Until COC's are filed we will be acting on speculation, he said.*CPG
