San Carlos XI bows to Iloilo
BY CEDELF TUPAS

Iloilo's greater precision in the second half accounted for their impressive 3-2 victory over an all-San Carlos crew from Negros Occidental to clinch the first finals slot in the secondary boys' football competition of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet yesterday.

The San Carlos booters, who preferred to wear their red and black jerseys instead of the traditional light blue kit of Negros, blew a two-goal lead, before allowing Romeo Martinez to unleash a blistering strike from just inside the box for the marginal goal 10 minutes from time at the Paglaum Sports Complex pitch.

Negros batters prevail

The Negros Occidental secondary boys' baseball team's bid to redeem itself from a disappointing campaign last year started with a 6-1 drubbing of Guimaras yesterday in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet at the Bacolod City National High School grounds.

Negros finished last a year ago after losing all their games for fielding an ineligible player. In the other match, Capiz rolled past Aklan, 11-9. Meanwhile, Iloilo defeated Aklan, 7-6, and Guimaras won over Capiz, 12-2, in the elementary boys' matches.

In the elementary men's basketball, Iloilo drove past Negros Occidental, 70-62, at the Negros Occidental Multi- Purpose Gym.

K of C bowlfest starts

The Invitational Open Bowling Tournament sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 5665, Panasonic and Sharp Philippines unfolds at 6 tonight at the New Top's Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

Grand Knight Irnie Diaz said the event is a 10-scheduled game tournament where the top four teams in the men's division will be classified into bracket A, while the fifth to eight squads will fall to category B, he added.

The magic four in each bracket will then play in an up-the-ladder system to determine the champion, so as the top four teams in the women's side.
