Airport upgrading soon
BY MARICAR ARANAS

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo vowed to expand the Dumaguete City trunk line airport in the effort of her administration to entice power intensive companies into Oriental Negros.

The President who was in Dumaguete and Bais cities Monday said having a bigger airport is an advantage, adding that the trunk line airport will be equipped with night landing facilities, expanded runway and developed cargo capability.

The airport currently has limited facilities compared to bigger airports like the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu province and other parts of the country.

Arroyo said Oriental Negros is in the middle of the information technology and tourism center under the super regions program of the country.

She also said she is looking forward to the 24-hectare Dumaguete Business Park where Robinsons Dumaguete will soon rise, to rake in government revenues by way of jobs. The park is bigger than Rockwell in Manila. Its developer promised the President it will develop the beach area and connect it to the famous Rizal Boulevard, she said.

The park was inaugurated by President Arroyo and Vice President Noli de Castro during her visit.*MA
