The Bacolod police yesterday filed charges for alarm and scandal
and concealing of true name against a man claiming to be a doctor
who swindled a health officer in La Carlota and six persons in Bacolod
City, last week.
Senior Insp. Joeresty Coronica, Police Station 1 commander,
yesterday said they filed the charges against Jonathan Piring, 32,
who also uses several aliases such as "Paulo Singaban Clarito" and
"Dr. Juan Miguel Sy" before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.
The La Castellana police, meanwhile, will be responsible for
filing the qualified theft charges against Piring since the cellphones
were stolen in La Castellana and not in Bacolod City, on Feb 14,
Coronica said.
Piring was accused of stealing the cellphones, P6,000 in cash
and other valuables of complainants Efren Abalajon, 26, of Brgy.
Cabug; Giovanie Jamero, 29, of Brgy. Tangub; Fernando Nessia, 30,
of Brgy. Pahanocoy, all of Bacolod City, police reports said. On
Friday, the complainants saw Piring in the act of selling one of
the stolen cellphones at a Bacolod establishment, which prompted
them to seek police help.
Coronica said the owner of the red Toyota Vios, which was also
stolen by Piring from a Malaysian national who rented the car in
Cebu City, will arrive in Bacolod tomorrow to recover the vehicle.
He said Marivic Cabrera-Taton, another complainant, has
not yet met him, but he is advising her to file separate theft charges
against Piring. Taton, a dentist, had earlier claimed the suspect
stole her wallet with P1,400 in cash and other important documents
at her clinic in Bacolod City on Feb. 5.
Coronica said a 37-year-old complainant who claimed the suspect
failed to pay his debt of P19,000 and stole his checks should also
file another case against the suspect.
"Alarm and scandal, concealing of true name, and qualified theft
complaints are bailable offenses, so there's a possibility that
Piring could pay the bail bond for his temporary liberty", he said.*DMG
