An AlabKatipunan partylist group official yesterday said AK
is filing a complaint against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New
People's Army before the Commission on Human Rights in Bacolod City
for allegedly harassing and killing its members.
Ben Solilapsi, AlabKatipunan Negros head, said he informed
CHR officials in Bacolod yesterday of AK's intention to file a formal
complaint against the CPP-NPA this week. Solilapsi cited the killing
of Jose Cabunagan, an AK leader, in Barangay Bagacay, Tigbauan,
Iloilo, Thursday last week by the CPP-NPA. He said Cabunagan was
feeding chickens when seven armed men shot him.
He also cited the case of Aladdin Flores of Escalante who was
also allegedly harassed by the CPP-NPA.
Flores said about seven armed men he suspected to be members
of the CPP-NPA were looking for him in the wee hours of Sunday at
his house in Barangay Hulom-hulom, Escalante City.
"I hid in the sugarcane field when I heard they were looking
for me," Flores said.
Flores said he had earlier heard in their village that the
CPP-NPA wanted him to stop organizing members of AK in northern
Negros.
Solilapsi said they are former members of the CPP-NPA who left
the movement and formed their legal organization - AlabKatipunan
to carry out their principles and programs for the people.
AK has been critical of the NPAs for the burning of sugarcane
field, destruction of properties, the bombing of the construction
site of the new airport in Silay City that they believe are anti-development,
he said. "They should respect our right to air honest criticism,
they should not just liquidate people," he said.
"All we are asking is that they stop harassing our people
and allow us to freely exist," he said.
AK members marched from through Bacolod City streets yesterday
to denounce the CPP-NPA.*CPG
