DepEd to widen
cheating probe

The Department of Education in Western Visayas is widening its investigation on the alleged age-cheating incident that happened in the 2006 Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan in Bacolod City. Victoriano Tirol, regional director of the Department of Education in Western Visayas, yesterday told the DAILY STAR that his office will conduct a separate inquiry on the case to see if there are other DepEd employees liable in the fielding of a player two years over the limit in the elementary boys' volleyball tournament of the provincial meet.

Tirol said the DepEd is set to file an administrative case on Fifth District schools supervisor Corazon Mohametano, Pahilanga Elementary School principal Nenita Caballero and PES teacher Julio Ferreros, who served as head coach of the team. "They will be given an opportunity to defend themselves and explain," Tirol said.

Tirol meted a lifetime coaching ban on Narciso Jayme, a teacher at Dr. Antonio Lizares Memorial High School in Talisay, for parading an ineligible player in the secondary baseball tournament of the 2006 WVRAA Meet in Roxas City in March.*CPT
