IN PULUPANDAN
Nominees for police
chief submitted
Another list of nominees for the post of Pulupandan
police chief was submitted to Mayor Luis Mondia by the Negros Occidental
Police Provincial Office, following the relief of Senior Inspector
Santiago Rapiz and his return to the E.B. Magalona Police Station
as the town police chief, effective yesterday.
Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, police provincial
director, yesterday identified the five junior police officers vying
for the position of Pulupandan police chief as Senior Inspectors
Regidor Alvarado, and Rone Grajo, Inspectors Robert Dejucos, Ariel
Pico and Perfecto Goc-ong.
The request of Mayor Alfonso Gamboa for the
return of Rapiz to E.B. Magalona was recently granted by Region
6 police director Wilfredo Dulay, with the approval of the Commission
on Election.
Rapiz served as officer-in-charge of the Pulupandan
Police Station for 10 days.
Mondia acknowledged the professionalism of Rapiz
in making Pulupandan town peaceful during his brief stint as town
police chief, with zero incident happening during the recent week-long
town fiesta. "Rapiz is a professional police officer who did his
job without favoritism," he said.
Franco said Rapiz should concentrate his
effort on street crimes and the reported resurgence of illegal gambling
and drug peddling activities.
Gamboa came to the rescue of Rapiz who was relieved
as E.B. Magalona police chief on the basis of complaints filed against
him by town residents, which he described as baseless and pure harassment.
The E.B. Magalona Police Station was adjudged
as best municipal police station in Negros Occidental in years 2004
and 2005, under the watch of Rapiz. He was also recently chosen
among the Top 3 outstanding policemen of Negros Occidental by the
Council of Lions Club Presidents of the province. Franco said SPO3
Anthony Burgos will temporarily replace Rapiz in Pulupandan while
the selection of a new town police chief is approved by the Comelec.
Alvarado, one of the nominees, is also being
groomed to be the successor of Senior Inspector Placido Composa
who is retiring from the police service this month.*GPB
