Remove illegal
campaign posters

The Commission on Elections in Oriental Negros has ordered the Dumageuete City General Services Office to remove all campaign posters and materials posted outside the designated poster areas.

Provincial election supervisor Manuel Advincula said that under Republic Act 9006, or the Fair Elections Act, all national and local candidates will be allowed to place their campaign materials only in COMELEC-designated poster areas.

Under the law, campaign materials are prohibited in public infrastructures, trees, electric and communication posts and lines.

These can be posted on private buildings provided the owner consents. But these are prohibited on buildings located in major thoroughfares as these could be traffic hazards, Advincula said.

Campaign posters of senatorial candidates are now posted in some communication and electric posts in Dumaguete . Advincula said this is the common problem of the COMELEC during campaign period.

He said candidates should have briefed their campaign coordinators before allowing them to post campaign materials.

Advincula said he will meet all election field officers in the province today.*MA
