DA sets aside P3.12 billion for
irrigation systems repair

The Department of Agriculture has allotted P3.12 billion for the repair of various irrigation systems in the country this year, GMA Rice Program Director Frisco Malabanan.

Malabanan, who spoke at Rice and Corn Information Caravan in Iloilo City last week, said the repair of old irrigation systems and the additional works that will be done will benefit farmers who are into rice and corn production.

He said the improvement of the irrigation system is one of the four components that their office is looking into to support the farmers in achieving a higher production this year. Malabanan urged various irrigator associations to closely coordinate with the offices of the National Irrigation Administration in their respective areas and check on the list of irrigation sites that are up for restoration.

He added that there are municipalities that have already identified several irrigation system that needs rehabilitation.*NLG
