P200,000 for skills training

The Valladolid municipal government has allotted P200,000 for the implementation of technical-vocational courses for its constituents in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, starting this year and onwards.

Mayor Ricardo Presbitero signed a memorandum of agreement with TESDA Director General Augusto Syjuco during the latter's recent visit to Bacolod City recently, for the conduct of skills training in Spa Therapy Course I and for higher learning Etheric Nerve Impulse Therapy Course II and other Technical-Vocational Education and Training programs.

The trainings, to be attended by out-of-school youths and unemployed and underemployed town residents, are intended for the establishment of the Institute for Spa, Health and Wellness Development Center in Valladolid.

Under the agreement, the municipality, among others, will provide the training facilities as well as the instructor and instruction materials; conduct the skills training to qualified beneficiaries for 120 hours on Course I and 200 hours on Course II; and confer spa therapist certificates to those who can satisfactorily complete four modules and training certificates to those who can finish each single module.

TESDA, meanwhile, will facilitate the review of modules/outlines/curriculum of the identified package in Spa Therapy and provide technical support/assistance in terms of technical skills, enhancement/upgrading of skills and accreditation of skills competencies, job placement services and monitor training activities.*NLG
