The renamed Silliman University College of Mass Communication
started the celebration of its 41st anniversary on the theme "Communicate
to Build Competence, Character, and Faith" yesterday and it will
end Feb. 24, a Silliman press release said.
"We want to enhance the skills of our students in the College,
instilling in them Christian ethics and values that make the ideal
media practitioner," the MassCom Department press release said.
A torch parade yesterday was held by the Kapunungan sa mga
Mass Communicators.
Other activities are: Open House at Guy Hall, featuring exhibits
in Photography of the students, and Environmental Journalism tomorrow;
Wednesday -- Newsmakers' Night, a party for the Masscom students,
faculty, staff, and alumni, and Miss MassCom search to select the
department representative to the Ms. Silliman Pageant in August;
Thursday, 6 p.m -- screening of "Sarong Banggi," an award-winning
film by Emmanuel de la Cruz; Friday, 7:30 p.m. -- screening of "Ang
Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Olivero," and award-winning movie by Raymond
Lee. Both screenwriters and directors are guests of the College,
the press release said.
The College has strengthened its offering of the Certificate in
Environmental Journalism for students and professionals, and has
beefed up its faculty expertise with industry professionals from
Manila and abroad as adjunct professors, the press release also
said.*
