6 'bodol-bodol' gang
members apprehended
Six members of a "bodol-bodol" gang in Cadiz City,
Negros Occidental, were arrested and stolen items were recovered,
police chief Jefferson Descallar said.
Four of the gang members, identified as Felix
Esporlas of Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, Ramil Ortiz, Anabelle Roxas
and Karen Luna, all residents of Mandaue City, Cebu, were arrested
on Feb. 13 at a hotel at Villena Street in Cadiz City.
Follow-up operations by the Cadiz police also
led to the recovery of a black Toyota Corona vehicle, suspected
to be a carnapped vehicle, a .38 caliber revolver with three live
ammunition, five cell phones, assorted jewelries and wrist watches,
wallets, ATM cards P1,420 in cash, eight small pouches containing
several bundles of cut newspapers with a fake P100 bill on top,
the next day.
Two other alleged gang members identified as
Marilyn Soriano, 30, and Flora Campos, 64, were also arrested by
the police yesterday in the same place.
Descallar said the arrest of the six suspects
was made after two minors complained to the Cadiz police that they
were victimized by two unidentified women who got their cellphones.
Police investigations showed that the two female
suspects approached the two minors asking them where they could
rent a house, which is believed to be part of the modus operandi
of the suspects to hoodwink their victims.
The two victims, however, only realized that their
cellphones were gone when the two suspects had already left. A small
pouch containing cut newspapers, being used as a bodol-bodol money,
was given by the suspects to the two victims, in exchange for their
cellphones, the police said. The six arrested suspects are now detained
at the police station jail of Cadiz City.*GPB

2 of 5 in gang war
slay surrender
Two of the five suspects involved in a gang war where
a 19-year-old was killed, yesterday surrendered to the Pulupandan
police, after a series of negotiations made by Brgy. Capt. Lowell
del Carmen, town police chief Santiago Rapiz said.
After seven months of hiding from the police,
Stephen Alera and James Verde, both 18, and suspects in the death
of Ronnel Cordero, 19, yesterday gave themselves up to Rapiz.
Initial investigations show that Alera and Verde,
with other members of their gang, allegedly murdered Cordero in
July 28 last year, at Rego Street, Brgy. Zone 2, Pulupandan.
Rapiz said the surrender of Alera and Verde resulted
from series of dialogs he had conducted with residents and barangay
officials of Pulupandan, after he assumed command of the town police.
The two suspects and three other members of their
gang who remain at-large, are facing murder charges, and were denied
bail by Bago City Regional Trial Court Judge Franklin Demonteverde,
for the death of Cordero last year.*GPB
