Two skills trainings are scheduled this month in Hinigaran and in Bacolod City.

A three-day "Hands-on Training on Fishery Product Development, Marketing and Promotion" is being conducted until February 17 at the Canonoy Beach Resort in Hinigaran, a press release from the Capitol said. The training, being attended by members of Central Negros Council for Coastal Resource Development, seeks to improve local fishery product utilization with emphasis on lampirong (Capiz shells) and other shellfish commodities and impart modern product packaging skills, marketing strategies and product promotions.

It is being conducted in cooperation with the Agricultural Training Center - Regional Training Center VI, Technology and Livelihood Development Center, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and CENECCORD.

A thermal processing training will also be held on February 21 and 22 at the Technology and Livelihood Development Center (formerly KADIWA Center) in Gatuslao Street, Bacolod City, a press release from the Department of Trade and Industry said.

Thermal processing is an operation in which product is placed in a hermetic container (canned foods) or bottled products heated at sufficiently high temperature for a sufficient length of time to destroy all microbial and enzyme activity.

The training course, a combination of lecture and workshop, will be presented by the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology and the Association of Negros Occidental Food Processors.

Trainers will come from the Industrial Technology and Development Institute Manila.

Participation fee is P1,200 per person inclusive of meals, training, hand-outs, and certificates.
