Campaign starts, police arrest ten
FOR ILLEGAL POSTING
OF LACSON MATERIALS

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO & DONALYN GUERRERO

Ten persons were arrested by the police for allegedly pasting election campaign materials in several establishments and structures along Araneta Street, Bacolod City, at about 6:10 a.m. yesterday.

The Bacolod City Mobile Group arrested Ernesto Alquisa, 38; Marlon Vargas, 37; Elmer Panaguiton, 25; Penguin Petilla, 29; Joan Rojo, 18; Vicent Frias, 25; Nerio Barilla, 34; Joey Suarez, 34; Mike Baylon, 69, and a 17-year-old boy, police reports said.

CMG led by PO3 Ritchie Gohee and PO1 Cris Caras arrested the suspects in the act of gluing the posters of former Senator Panfilo Lacson in areas not designated by the Commission on Elections.

Alquisa yesterday told the DAILY STAR, he and his companions were not instructed where to paste the posters. He said they were only hired to do the job and were surprised when the police arrested them.

Baylon claimed he had not participated in the activity, but one of the suspects contacted him and asked him to go to Police Station 1. So when he arrived he was detained together with the rest since he was called "bosing" by some of them.

Meanwhile, Bacolod Comelec registrar Mavil Majarucon said that, for violation of COMELEC Resolution 7767, those apprehended will be meted a penalty of one year to six years imprisonment without probation under Sections 11 and 27 of R.A. 6646.

She said candidates should only post their posters in designated common poster areas in the city.

On the other hand, broadcaster Rene Aparicio Tan, 58, of Brgy. 29, was the second Bacoleņo to file his certificate of candidacy for councilor at the Bacolod COMELEC Office yesterday.*DMG/CGS
