'He broke my heart
on Valentine's day'
Dear Tita,
I met Eric (not his real name) at an exhibit and
we clicked right away as he was good-looking, intelligent and funny.
He kept giving me food from the buffet as I told him I was very
hungry. We became good friends and spent a lot of time together.
My co-workers liked him and were hoping that we would fall in love.
It was not hard to fall in love with Eric.
As we became closer, he talked about his past
and how he had fallen for a secretary in the company he worked for.
He said he was so smitten with Maggie that he began making plans
to marry her. But he got the shock of his life when he found out
that Maggie was having a secret affair with her married boss who
was giving her money for her needs. Eric could hardly believe it
and decided to confront Maggie.
She admitted everything and so he asked her why
she led him on. She told him that she did it to cover up her affair
with her boss. Eric's world came crashing down on him and he immediately
resigned and went to work for another company. It took him sometime
before he got over Maggie.
I felt sorry for Eric and I knew I even loved
him more than ever. By this time we were inseparable. Eric showed
me how much he loved me. Sometimes I asked him if he was truly over
his feelings for Maggie and he said he was. I never thought I could
be so happy as I was with the man I loved. Last year I was so excited
because it would be my first time to celebrate Valentine's Day with
the man I loved. I bought a nice gift for Eric and a new dress for
myself which I planned to wear on our date.
But all my preparations were in vain as Eric came
to see me on Valentine's Day. He looked so depressed and could hardly
say anything. When I asked him what was the problem, he told me
that he bumped into Maggie at a mall a few days before and they
had a long conversation. Maggie informed him that she had broken
off with her married boyfriend. After seeing her all over again,
Eric realized that he was still in love with her. I was numb with
shock and couldn't say a word. He asked for my forgiveness and left.
Tita, it's been a year since it happened and now it's Valentine's
Day again. I can still feel the pain of losing Eric. How do I get
over it? How can I ever trust a man after what happened?
BROKENHEARTED
Dear Brokenhearted,
What Eric did to you on Valentine's Day was cruel
and heartless. He didn't deserve your love. What you must do now
is to move on. Try to get over your feelings for him. Go out and
meet new friends. Have fun. Life is too beautiful to waste on sad
memories. In time, the pain will disappear and you might find someone
to share your life with. Don't close the doors on this possibility.
Remember the saying, "Laugh and the whole world laughs with you.
Cry and you cry alone".
TITA
