ETCS II, NOHS win
invitational quiz bee

The Education Training and Center School II and the Negros Occidental High School emerged as champions in the elementary and secondary levels, respectively, in the 2nd La Consolacion College Invitational Quiz Bee held Monday, a press release from LCC in Bacolod City said.

Bethel Diane Abestano, Edmar Bernadas and Kristine Marie Gucio of ETCS II, coached by Rhante Lubrico, bested nine pupils from three other elementary schools. Meanwhile, ETCS I represented by Adrian Janssen Huelar, Nicolo Paolo Lamigo and Luvielyn Igpuara got the first runner-up honors while another team from ETCS I and delegates from Rodolfo Medel Elementary School garnered the second and third runners-up awards, respectively, the press release said.

In the secondary level, Johnnil Fatima Arceo, Roden Jon Hilario and Roy Roque Rivera of NOHS won first place. They were coached by Fritz Porras, Joebert Ramos and Monette Sumalinog.

Bacolod City National High School and Luisa Medel National High School won second and third places.

The winners received medals, trophies, tokens and certificates, and scholarships for the secondary category winners. The quiz was sponsored by the LCC School of Liberal Arts and Education. The school also set a series of lectures and film showings on the "Great Books" by alumni faculty and guests on Feb 26-28, and a stage play called "A New Yorker from Tondo," on the last week of this month, the press release added.*

DyEZ Aksyon Radyo in Bacolod City is calling for volunteers to take part in its coverage of the May 2007 mid-term elections called "Supercount 2007", a press release from its production chief Julius Mariveles, said.

The station will deliver the results as it is, where it is, right from where the action is and needs data collectors, exit pollers and reporters, the press release said. CSA-B to hold Playfest

The Colegio San Agustin Kanlaon Theater Guild, in cooperation with the CSA-B Basic Education department grade school and high school drama club, will celebrate National Arts Month with Playfest 2007 today until Friday, a press release from CSA-B in Bacolod City said.

It will present a twinbill 3 and 6 p.m. today at at the CSA-B Auditorium. These are the "Hayahay Sang Kahilwayan," a 15-minute multi-lingual vignette entitled "Graciano: Orador Sang Pilipino" in celebration of the 111th death anniversary of Ilonggo patriot, Graciano Lopez-Jaena; and "Taytayan: Ang Pagpangita Sa Atong Kapanulundan" a Cebuano play which is part of a trilogy on heritage called "Dalit Ng Mga Virtuoso," the region's entry for Tanghal: 1st National University Theater Festival. At 10 a.m. tomorrow, the University of San Agustin Teen Theater Company will present "Rapunzel Uncut," a modern adaptation of the renowned Grimm Brothers' fair tale, after which the inter-year play competition of the Basic Education department will follow.

The freshmen will present "Wizard of Oz", the sophomores, "High School Musical", the juniors, "Nanny McPhee" and the seniors, "Corpse Bride," at the Auditorium.

On Feb. 16, 10 a.m., the grade school drama club will render an interactive Readers' Theater version of "Charlotte's Web" at the CSA-B Function Hall.

Rudy Reveche is the artistic director for Kanlaon Theater Guild while Romelyn Treyes and Nida Segovia are the moderators of the high school and grade school drama clubs, respectively, the press release added.*

COURAGE presscon set

Issues affecting the Government Service Insurance System and the Government Compensation Act will be discussed at a press conference, 10 a.m. today at the Negros Media Center, San Juan Street, in Bacolod City by the Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees-Negros Occidental Chapter today.

A press release from the group said that the presscon to be held is in coordination with the Alliance of Concerned Teaches, and Alliance of Classroom Teachers.*
