TREASURERS TOLD
Explain failure to collect taxes
BY ROMY AMARADO

The 20 municipal treasurers in Oriental Negros have to explain their perceived failure or indifference in collecting tax on buildings, which is blamed for the low collection of real property tax in the province last year.

Provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez disclosed that of the P89 million target collection from real property tax in 2006, only P59 million was collected. He said this could be the main reason for the low collection.

The municipal treasurers did not give serious attention to the collection of real property tax on buildings, Mendez said.

MAP alliance to pursue
P620-M diversion road
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Mayor Agustin Perdices yesterday disclosed that one of the priority development projects that the Macias-Arnaiz-Perdices alliance would undertake is the diversion road in Dumaguete City.

This will ease traffic coming and going from the south and north to the capital city of Oriental Negros, Perdices said. MAP, which stands for the triumvirate of Rep. Emilio Macias II (Neg. Or., 2nd district), Gov. George Arnaiz, and Perdices, has embarked on joint development projects, particularly the road concreting in Dumaguete City,

"It's not just me but the three of us, (referring to Macias and Arnaiz) who need to finish things before our terms end soon", Perdices said in an interview.
