Abide by rules of COMELEC,
senate bets' supporters told
BY CARLA GOMEZ

COMELEC provincial superintendent Jessie Suarez yesterday called on supporters of senatorial candidates to post their campaign materials in COMELEC identified common poster areas as the campaign period for the Senate kicks off today.

They should check with local election registrars of towns and cities where the designated poster areas are, he said, otherwise theirs materials in undesignated areas will be removed by the COMELEC. The campaign period for senators and political parties, organizations or coalitions participating under the partylist system of election starts today and ends May 12.

Presidential political affairs adviser Gabriel Claudio announced that the 12th candidate of the administration's team unity is Jamalul Kiram III, heir to the Sultanate of Sulu, beating yesterday's deadline for the filing of Certificates of Candidacies for the Senate.

The period for filing of CoCs for local elective positions ends March 29 and the campaign period for candidates for the House of Representatives and elective provincial, city and municipal offices will be from March 30 to May 12, Suarez said.

Almost all COMELEC officials in Negros Occidental will be reshuffled on March 15 to avoid familiarization with the candidates, Suarez said, except him and Mavil Majarucon of Bacolod City who has been newly assigned to the post.

Meanwhile, the COMELEC is about to complete the new voters list of Negros Occidental, he said.

Candidates who wish to acquire copies of the voters' list can go to the Negros Occidental COMELEC office, he said. Candidates must bring their own continuous forms and pay P75 for the first 10 pages and P2 for each subsequent page, Suarez added.

Closely being monitored by the COMELEC are Pulupandan and Moises Padilla towns, but peace and order concerns there have been addressed with additional police forces, he said.*CPG
