Depression eyed
in man's suicide

A man reportedly hanged himself in a shanty at the back of their residence in Bangga Totong, Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City, at dawn yesterday.

The body of Ira Omison, 40, was found with a rope around his neck and tied to the ceiling, by his younger brother, Carlo, at about 6 a.m. yesterday, case investigator PO3 Danny Abalayan of Police Station 10 told the DAILY STAR.

Abalayan said the younger Omison told him his brother had been suffering from diabetes. He said the victim had two children, but his 20-year-old son died when he accidentally fell from a building in Bacolod City few years ago. The victim's daughter and wife reportedly left him, which possibly added to his depression, Abalayan said.

One of victim's siblings who is working abroad called him up last week and asked him if he wanted to have his right foot amputated to reduce the pain he was suffering, Abalayan said.

He said investigation showed no foul play in the victim's death.*DMG

A man was stabbed dead, allegedly by his neighbor in Purok Sunrise, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, following a heated argument.

Declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital was Gezrel Dorio dela Cruz, 27, who succumbed to several stab wounds, police reports said.

The suspect, Dela Cruz's neighbor Wilfredo Sy Magbanua, 37, has been arrested, reports said. Chief Insp. Noel Mana-ay, Police Station 6 commander, yesterday told the DAILY STAR, Dela Cruz and Magbanua were drinking with their friends when an altercation ensued between them which led to a commotion.

Manaay said their investigation showed that Dela Cruz hit Magbanua with a stone, which prompted the latter to stab him.

Meanwhile, Manuel Pialante Mahilum, 16, of Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City was also stabbed by his co-worker in a store at Amelia-Mercedez streets, Bacolod City at about 11:30 p.m. of the same day.

Mahilum sustained multiple stab wounds allegedly inflicted by Arthur Balcotan Zamora, 16, of Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, police reports said.

Manaay said Mahilum and Zamora were peeling potatoes when they argued over the number of potatoes given to them by their employer.

Mahilum is confined at the hospital, while Zamora managed to escape and remains at large, he added.

Another stabbing victim, Pedro Guilaran, 43, married, of Villa Lourdes, Brgy. Pahanocoy was also rushed to the CLMMRH with stab wounds allegedly inflicted with an ice pick by an unidentified person in the barangay Sunday midnight, hospital reports said.*DMG
