Blood donation,
medical mission set in Valencia

Valencia town in Oriental Negros has come up with a unique way of sharing love on Valentine's Day tomorrow that could make the celebration more meaningful, through a blood donation campaign.

Simultaneous with the bloodletting is a medical mission to be conducted in coordination with the Philippine National Oil Company - Environment Development Corporation, and the provincial government.

A medical team from the provincial hospital will assist local doctors examine hundreds of patients.

The town made this initiative in response to the continuing requests from relatives of medical patients in need of blood, Valencia Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez Jr., who institutionalized in his administration the blood donation campaign, said.

He said it is Valencia's participation in the noble cause of donating blood through the Philippine National Red Cross-Dumaguete Chapter. Gov. George Arnaiz, a galloner in the blood donation campaign and a regular personality in the bloodletting of Valencia, is expected to grace the activity which will be held at the town plaza beginning 8 a.m.

Gonzalez encouraged the public, especially Valencianons, to donate their blood during this occasion to help save lives.

The town holds the title of having the highest number of blood donors in one campaign of PNRC in the province when it recorded 74 blood donors in last year's campaign. Valencia will hold another bloodletting in August when Gonzalez celebrates his birthday, he said.*RG
