LTO-Bayawan office opens

A new extension office of the Land Transportation Office was inaugurated Saturday in the Poblacion area of Bayawan City, Oriental Negros.

Bayawan Mayor German Saraņa described the new LTO building as a dream-come-true for the city government and the LTO.

He said statistics show that LTO Bayawan has a large number of registration compared to Dumaguete City. The LTO Bayawan City is also serving the nearby municipalities of Negros Occidental. Saraņa said he is challenging the LTO officials to make LTO Bayawan a district office.

Gov. George Arnaiz said Bayawan should have its own national offices because of its increasing population, aside from being the richest city in Oriental Negros.

He added having an LTO District in Bayawan in the future would mean big savings both in money and effort. LTO Bayawan is allowed only to renew licenses and registration. But issuance of new licenses and registration is done in the Dumaguete LTO office.

Although preparations would be delayed during the election period, the Bayawan LTO said that, with the strong support of the local officials, it will become a district office.

Present at the blessing were Arnaiz, Saraņa, LTO Traffic Division chief of the Central Office Daisy Jacubo, LTO regional director Alex Leyson, Board Member Henry Pryde Teves, and other local officials.*MA
