The country's new basketball group, Basketball Association of
the Philippines-Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas, has not yet submitted
its application for membership to the Philippine Olympic Committee,
three days after the International Basketball Federation announced
that it is ready to lift the country's suspension, POC first vice-president
and Rep. Monico Puentevella said yesterday.
Puentevella, chairman of the membership committee, said the
POC needs 10 days to scrutinize the papers related to the BAP-SBP's
application for membership.
The BAP-SBP will then present the papers in the POC general
assembly on Feb. 15, before a special meeting will be held on the
next day to discuss their membership, he said.
The new cage body only needs the recognition of the POC to pave
the way for the lifting of the suspension slapped by the International
Basketball Federation close to two years ago.*CPT
