Teacher swindled

A retired teacher lost her jewelry and cash to a Tagalog-speaking woman who swindled her in front of an establishment at San Sebastian - Araneta streets, Bacolod City, at about 9:30 a.m. yesterday.

The victim, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, told the police that an unidentified woman approached her and introduced herself as a businesswoman from Palawan.

She said the woman told her she was looking for chemical preservatives for her fish and other products. She said they discussed the acquisition of chemical preservatives.

During their conversation, the suspect asked her to put her 18-K gold necklace and 14-K gold ring and P1,000 in cash in a brown envelope, the complainant said.

She said the suspect also placed her "bundles of money" in the envelope, which the former left to her for safety. She said she took a taxi and went home where she discovered that the envelope contained bundles of Grade IV pad paper, and her jewelry and money were gone.*DMG
