Gov. Joseph Maraņon turned over about P6 million in financial
assistance to various barangays in the second district of the province
in ceremonies held recently at the Provincial Capitol, in Bacolod
City.
A press release from the Capitol said 12 barangays in Manapla
town got a total of P929,808 while 21 villages in Cadiz City got
P2,662,108, while 24 barangays of Sagay received P2,433,524. Maraņon
said the funds were taken from the P40 million savings of the province
and will be used to purchase medicines and finance priority projects
of the barangays, the press release said.
In 2005, the province bought medicines for the barangays,
but last yer the governor decided to give the amount to the village
officials to procure medicines.
Present at the turnover rites were Rep. Alfredo Maraņon III (2nd
district, Neg. Occ.), Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco, Board Members Miller
Serondo and Gary Acuņa, Manapla Manuel Escalante III, Cadiz Mayor
Salvador Escalante, Sagay Mayor Rafael Leo Cuevas, and other local
officials, the press release added.*
