Biofuels Caravan stops
in Bacolod tomorrow

The Biofuels Caravan, organized by the Philippine Fuel Ethanol Alliance, will arrive in Bacolod City tomorrow and will start with a roadshow of three vehicles running on biofuels around the city at 8 a.m., a press release from organizers said.

The caravan, which kicked off February 3 in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte Feb. 9, seeks to educate the public on the use and benefits of biofuels.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has signed Republic Act 9367 or the Biofuels Act of 2006 last month.

From Ilocos Norte, the caravan proceeded to Tarlac where the organizers held their first public forum. The caravan then traveled to Laguna, Batangas and Iloilo today.

During the public forum at the Business Inn, the speakers will be Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Director Mario Marasigan of the Department of Energy; Jun Espino of the Automobile Association of the Philippines; Bien Baniqued of the Council of the Philippine Clean Cities Coalition; and Bernie Raymundo of Seaoil Philippines.

Organizers said local officials and members of the media have been invited to ride the Toyota Innova, Ford Focus and Mitsubishi Lancer vehicles fueled by either bioethanol or biodiesel. The vehicles will be displayed at the Capitol Lagoon before the caravan departs for San Carlos City where the bio-ethanol plant is being constructed. The caravan will then proceed to Cebu.*
