Cops identify perpetrator
in lending collector's slay
BY MARICAR ARANAS & RENE GENOVE

A witness has positively identified the suspect in the robbing and killing Monday of a lending collector in Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, Supt. Dionardo Carlos, city police chief, said yesterday.

The witnesses identified the suspect in the slay of Clamil Lazarate as Joey Montesor, of Barangay Balugo, in Dumaguete, who reportedly hails from Lamitan, Basilan.

Carlos said a manhunt operation is being conducted by operatives because Montesor is considered armed and dangerous. He added that all ports and bus stations have been secured to prevent the suspect from leaving the province.

The lack of supplies continues to affect the operation of the Commission on Elections in Oriental Negros, provincial election supervisor Manuel Advincula said.

He said his office has not yet received office supplies like paper, computer toner, among others, from their national office.

This affected some of their activities for the May 14 polls, including the Precinct Certified Voters' List which cannot be expedited because of lack of computer toner. "We are like beggars, begging from other offices," Advincula said, although he clarified that, "This has been a perennial problem and not a cause for alarm."

Valencia farmers
avail of 'hakot' program
BY AMRAICAR ARANAS

Farmers from Valencia will now display their farm products near the southbound terminal in Barangay Bacagay in Dumaguete City.

Mayor Rodulfo Gonzales said they have decided to find a suitable "paunay" area for the farmers after the city government of Dumaguete decided to transfer the "paunay" market to Barangay Bajumpandan.

Under the "hakot" program, farm products will be brought to the paunay market in Bagacay every Saturday. At present farmers have observed a positive effect after traders come and buy their products in bulk. The mayor said they asked the Perigua family to use the vacant space for the farmers. Every farmer will be paying P20 to the lot owner every end of the market day.
