DA holds info caravan
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Agriculture Assistant Secretary Clayton Olalia yesterday led the information caravan in Dumaguete City promoting the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani rice and corn production campaign on the theme "Paghi-usa Alang sa Kalambuan sa Pag-uma."

It was attended by leaders, coordinators of farmers, employees and agriculture officers in Oriental Negros, and aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt the modern methods in farming being introduced by the DA.

Olalia said the caravan did not bring empty promises but it urged farmers to take advantage of the government's programs in agriculture.

He said the GMA rice and corn is now offered by the DA by using hybrid rice and corn seeds, the use of which will assure farmers of increase in production. Olalia lauded the provincial government for its support to the programs.

Oriental Negros has been cited for its two community agriculture -based programs -- Barangay Agriculture Development Center and Gulayan Palaisdaan Alay sa Kabataan.

Vice Gov. Jose Baldado said the caravan helped farmers realize the benefits of agri-farming and said, the government will continue constructing irrigation systems and farm to market roads.

Bayawan Mayor German Saraņa said his city is one of the blessed local government units in Central Visayas for it has availed of several agricultural projects from the DA.

He said Bayawan should be a model in farming since it has produced tonnage of rice and corn by following modern methods.*MA
