Zubiri wants poachers,
killers of bird punished

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri authored Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act on reports of bird massacre in Negros island, a press release from his office said.

“Losing any of them to extinction would be breaking a link in the chain of life not only of those birds but of all of us,” he said in his press release.

Zubiri said these poachers should be punished and the penalties to be slapped should be strong enough to stop these practices and serve as a warning to others, the press release added.

A conservationist and executive director of the Philippine Cockatoo Conservation Program and the Philippine Deer Foundation, Zubiri said he is worried about the angry comments from signatories of an online global petition which showed pictures of dead doves, mallards, whistling ducks and snipes. *
