Mayor resubmits
proposed P300-M budget
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices yesterday said there is nothing anomalous in the proposed budget for 2008 submitted by his office to the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

It is the minority insisting on a pork barrel, he said.

Perdices made the statement in reaction to the junking of the proposed budget by three members of the minority whose plan to include “pork barrel” shares was disapproved by the majority group during the last session.

The Philippine National Police is seeking the help of barangay officials in the campaign against injury and deaths from pyrotechnics during the Christmas and New Year revelries.

Police director for Negros Oriental, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, said they are coordinating with barangay captains all over the province to designate “firecrackers zones” in their barangays.

Buenafe said residents have been complaining against indiscriminate firecracker explosions that pose danger, inconvenience, and annoyance.

The Jehovah's Witnesses will hold a convention for an educational event on the subject of how to follow Jesus Christ, tomorrow, at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center , at the Capitol Area in Dumaguete City .

Tomorrow will mark the start of the 2007 “Follow the Christ!” District convention of Jehovah's Witnesses, which follows a massive three-week effort to invite as many as possible from the community to attend.

The convention will show how the community had been affected by Christ's example and teachings and improved their family life, dealt with life's difficult problems, and drew closer to God. Local residents who studied the Bible will publicly symbolize their dedication to Jehovah God during a baptism ceremony on Saturday, organizers said.
