| Dave Fegidero, the former national football team standout, who passed away in October, is the recipient of the posthumous award in this year's SCOOP-Bacolod Awards.
Expected to receive the award is his older brother, Norman Fegidero Jr., who is also a former national team player and now the current coach of West Negros College.
The awards program, to be keynoted by former SCOOP president and now PSC commissioner Eric Loretizo, will be held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29 at the Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City .
Dave, 29, who died due to injuries sustained after a motorcycle accident in the southern Thailand city of Hat Yai , was supposed to play for the national futsal team in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima , Thailand .
He was an alumnus of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Bacolod City National High School .
Johnny Romualdez, the ex-Philippine Football Federation president, and former Rep. Carlos Cojuangco, head of the Negros Occidental Football Association, acknowledged Fegidero's contributions to Philippine football.
The Philippines lost a great player, Romualdez said of Fegidero, who saw action in the 2002 Tiger Cup and the 2002 World Cup qualifying.
Negros lost a football son, Cojuangco said.
Leading the honor roll are world champion boxers Donnie Nietes and Gerry Penalosa, who will be awarded co-athletes of the year.
The other individual awardees are Asian Games boxing champion Joan Tipon, 2006 PBA MVP James Yap, Southeast Asian Games triple gold medalist Arniel Ferrera, golf standouts Juvic Pagunsan and Mia Piccio, beach volleyball player Rhovyl Verayo, athletics star Sheena Atilano, pro basketball plaer Reynel Hugnatan 2000 Sydney Olympics campaigner Juan Carlo Piccio, Krestia Angela Lacson and tennis wonder Jonicka Martina Guba. *SCOOP-Bacolod
