Employees of the Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental governments received Thursday their P10,000 performance bonuses as ordered by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

But the more than 1,700 Capitol employees got not only P10,000, but P12,000 each. Their counterparts in the city also received P10,000 each, although the Sangguniang Panlungsod at their regular session Thursday, passed a resolution pegging the bonus of the 1,300 city hall employees at P12,000.

The province spent more than P19 million, while, the city released P13 million for the bonuses.

Gov. Emilio Macias II said local government units can actually give more if they have enough savings.

Should there be any overpayment, the employees will be asked to refund the excess amount, as stated in their payroll, Macias added.*RA
