Millgate prices of “B” or domestic sugar in Negros and Panay dropped this week, hitting even below P1,000 per P50-kilo Lkg in Capiz, data from the Sugar Master Plan Foundation show.

At the Dec. 20 bidding, prices ranged from P975 to P1,030.08 per Lkg among the mill districts in Negros and Panay . On Dec. 13, prices of “B” sugar were still between P1,010.01 and 1,071.30 per Lkg.

Central Azucarera de Don Pedro in Batangas, which is included in this week's price monitor, disposed its “B” sugar at P1,075.26 (high) and P1,073.36 (low). But CADP didn't join the Dec. 6 and Dec. 13 biddings, as indicated in the earlier price monitors.

seen to hit 2M MTs

Rice production of Western Visayas is expected to hit the two million-metric ton mark this year, based on initial figures obtained by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 6.

Agriculture Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales said the forecast of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics as of November 15 indicates that the region's rice production already reached 1.99 million metric tons.

“There is an increase in our production, considering we only had 1.95 million metric tons last year,” Nacionales said.

RP aquaculture output
mapped out: PCAMRD

Experts have devised a long-term plan to increase the country's aquaculture output without damaging the environment, a government press release said.

Rafael Guerrero, executive director of the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development, said in the press release that the strategy aims to attain sustainability in production of bangus or milkfish, shrimps, tilapia and seaweed for self-sufficiency and global competitiveness.

PCAMRD is the sectoral council of the Department Of Science and Technology tasked with the formulation of strategies, policies, plans, programs and projects for science and technology.
