Guv wants Buenafe to stay at NORPPO
BY RENE GENOVE

Gov. Emilio Macias II has requested the Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police to extend the tour of duty of Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, Negros Oriental police provincial director, for at least a year.

Buenafe will end his two-year tour of duty in the province on December 30, 2007 .

In his letters to the DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno and PNP Chief Director Avelino Razon dated December 14, 2007, Macias said Buenafe assumed office only last June 30, and added that he needs an officer who is conversant and familiar with the concerns of the province.

He also said that Buenafe's leadership has contributed so much to the preservation of the peace and order condition of the province as its crime volume had significantly decreased since his assumption to office two years ago.

“We feel the need of his presence and service with our ongoing programs that need to be finished,” Macias also told Puno and Razon.

He cited these programs, as the ongoing prosecution of cases against suspects of high profile crimes including men in uniform, the organization of auxiliary police unit and SWAT Team, the strengthening of police-community partnership and the intensification of anti-drugs and anti-illegal gambling operation.

Macias also said that, because of his dedication and commitment, Buenafe has earned the trust and confidence of the different sectors in the province.*RA
