Jobless man shoots cop
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A policeman got the scare of his life when a jobless person, who created alarm and scandal in Sitio Paloypoy, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City , shot him Monday.

Ronilo Cabuctulan, however, missed Police Officer 3 Alan Rey Saril. Cabuctulan was reportedly under the influence of liquor, Chief Inspector Armando Tubongbanua, Himamaylan police chief, said.

Tubongbanua said he dispatched Saril and two other Himamaylan policemen to the barangay on Monday, in response to reports that he was carrying and displaying a .38 caliber revolver in front of his neighbors, on Dec. 16 and 17.

Cabuctulan sought refuge in the house of his grandfather in the barangay after he resisted arrest and shot Saril, police investigations showed.

Tubongbanua said the suspect surrendered to him after more than an hour of negotiations.

Cabuctulan tested positive for gunpowder nitrates, as did the .38 caliber revolver taken from him that was subjected to cotton swabbing examinations, police said.

Tubongbanua said Cabuctulan, who is now locked up in jail, will be charged for direct assault on person in authority, frustrated homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.*GPB
