| University of St. La Salle kept its NOPSSCEA aspirants basketball title Sunday by driving past St. Benilde School at the USLS-IS covered court in Bacolod City .
St. John's Institute and Murcia-based La Consolacion Academy shared the limelight with La Salle , by splitting the volleyball crowns at the USLS college covered court Sunday.
The Baby Stingers proved too strong for the Benilde cagers as they scored a 94-85 triumph to finish the 17-team tournament undefeated.
La Salle advanced to the final with an easy 77-46 victory over University of Negros Occidental Recoletos-Talisay , while St. Benilde nipped UNOR-Bacolod, 49-46.
Third place honors went to UNOR-Bacolod, which drubbed UNOR-Talisay, 65-56, in the first game Sunday.
La Salle overcame St. Theresita's Academy, Bacolod Christian Center of Negros and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod in the group stage, while St. Benilde emerged as one of the qualifiers in bracket D that included St. John's Institute, La Consolacion College-Main and Maranatha Christian Academy .
UNO-R Bacolod entered the knockout phase by qualifying from group B, where Trinity Christian School , Mansilingan Christian Academy , Tangub Christian Academy and Don Bosco Technical Institute were also bracketed.
UNO-R Talisay advanced from group C that included LCC-Gardenville, St. Joseph 's-La Salle and St. Augustine-International School.
In girls' volleyball, St. John's walloped St. Francis of Assisi School to wrest the crown. SJI moved into the final with a 25-18, 25-19 victory over La Salle .
St. Francis later arranged a finals duel with SJI, after powering past SJS-La Salle, 25-12, 25-17, USLS, 25-23, 25-21 and UNO-R Talisay, 25-17, 25-10.
In the boys' tournament, LCA stunned La Salle , 25-17, 15-25, 25-22 in the finals. The win was a fitting follow-up to an emphatic 25-18, 25-19 victory over La Consolacion College-Main.
La Salle climbed its way into contention by ousting St. Joseph School-La Salle, 25-12, 25-15 and relegating UNO-R Talisay to fourth spot with a 25-13, 25-14 win.
The La Sallians then took the second championship berth by downing LCC with a 25-11, 25-19 triumph.*CPT
