Reshuffling of NegOr
chiefs of police mulled
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Negros Oriental Philippine National Police command will implement the reshuffling of chiefs of police early next year, provincial director S/Supt. Melvin Buenafe said yesterday.

Buenafe said this is because of reports that some police chiefs are involved in illegal gambling, such as “Swertres” and “Pick 3,” and in illegal drugs.

He added that the reshuffling will also affect some PNP commanders who are due for retirement, or are on study leave.

Buenafe said he also received information from witnesses in raids conducted by the 705 th PNP Provincial Mobile Group, that some police officers are behind illegal gambling activities

Information also disclosed that some of the policemen involved in illegal gambling are from Dumaguete City , and others from the neighboring municipalities, although he refused to name names.

Buenafe said his office is verifying the reports.

Once confirmed, he said, police officers involved in illegal activities will be transferred to other assignments, depending on the weight of the offense.

Buenafe vowed to discipline police officers who fail to perform their duties.*MA
