An Army non-commissioned officer was shot for no apparent reason by an unidentified person at 1:30 a.m. Friday, at the public market of Canlaon City , Negros Oriental.

Police reports yesterday identified the victim as Private First Class Joseph Barte Tejam, 27, single, a trooper of the Alpha Company of the 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army stationed in Brgy. Masulog, Canlaon, and a resident of La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

Police reports said that the shooting took place while the victim was in the comfort room of the public market.

Jeep falls into cliff,
1 killed, 4 injured

One was killed and five others, including the driver, were injured when a jeepney fell into a cliff Wednesday afternoon in Sitio Kurbada, Brgy. Ulay, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental.

Traffic investigators identified the fatality as Allen Villegas, 24, married, of Brgy. Tampocon II, Ayungon town, and an employee of the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 1, based in Bindoy town.

Investigation disclosed that the vehicle driven by Antonio Carollo, 44, married, of Brgy. Tinaogan, Bindoy had Villegas and four other passengers, who were not identified in the police report, from Canlaon City and heading for Bindoy, about 3 p.m. .

Drug peddler gets
life imprisonment

A drug pusher was sentenced yesterday to life imprisonment by the drugs court at the Halls of Justice, Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City .

Convicted by Regional Trial Court Branch 30 Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan Jr. to a jail term while alive was Albert Medalle, married, of Upper Luke Wright, Barangay Poblacion 2, in Dumaguete.

Court records show that on June 25, 2005, Medalle, was arrested in a raid through a search warrant by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, National Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and the Dumaguete Philippine National Police.
