Ponce Engineering Services, the employment agency of the contractual workers of the Tanduay Distillers Inc.-Bacolod Plant, denied in a press statement yesterday the workers' claim of union-busting, and said the agency never prevented them from forming an organization.
“Ponce Engineering Services never restrained, coerced or restricted them of their right to form an organization for their own mutual aid and benefit,” the press statement said.
It also said the eight contractual workers, including Von Lachica, president of Samahan ng Manggagawa sa TDI, were not terminated from their work. Their five month contract had already expired thus, the cessation of their work assignment at Tanduay, with whom Ponce Engineering Services has a job contracting agreement, it added.

Chicken shortage seen,
but pork meat sufficient
There might be a shortage of chicken, but pork will be sufficient in Negros Occidental during the Christmas holidays.
Dr. Antonio Utzurrum, Negros manager of Bounty Agro Venture Inc., said yesterday their supply is limited and they might not be able meet the demand for chicken especially this coming Christmas weekend.
I cannot speak for all, but (on our part), we have limited supply, he said. 


Villar to back oil
deregulation charges
ILOILO CITY – Senate President Manuel Villar said he will back amendments to Republic Act 8479, or the Oil Deregulation Law, to prevent giant oil companies from fixing oil prices.
“We have a cartel and the Oil Deregulation Law lacks an anti-trust provision,” Villar said here Sunday before he opened the Iwag Festival in Pototan town in Iloilo .
A trust exists when commercial companies have a monopolistic or semi-monopolistic control over the production of some commodity or service.
