IN ESCALANTE
Ex-CAFGU member
nabbed for loose gun

Policemen arrested a former CAFGU member for illegal possession of firearms during a raid at his residence in Brgy. Binagyuhan, Escalante City , Negros Occidental, Friday.

Arrested was ex-CAFGU member Virgilio Alcon,40, from whose residence the police recovered a .45 caliber pistol with an extended magazine containing nine bullets.

Chief Inspector Leonardo Angcon, Escalante police chief, yesterday said the arrest of Alcon was in line with their renewed effort to account for loose firearms owned by individuals in the city.

Police records show that three persons were killed in incidents linked to politics and perpetrated by armed groups, since the midterm elections in Escalante.

Angcon said Alcon who was described as a “toughie” by his neighbors, has a pending case for arson.

The raid was conducted by the Escalante police through a search warrant issued by San Carlos City Regional Trial Court Judge Catherine Go.

Alcon is now locked up in jail.*GPB
