Toy guns seized
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Intelligence operatives of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office simultaneously raided market stalls selling gun replicas in Silay and Talisay cities yesterday.

The NOPPO Special Operations Group members led by Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, assisted by the Talisay and Silay policemen, swooped down on 10 market stalls and confiscated 128 toy guns that could be mistaken for original firearms and explosives, and estimated to have a market value of P10,000.

Santotome said persons engaged in selling gun replicas may be held liable and penalized under Presidential Letter of Instruction Number 1264.

He said the renewed campaign against the proliferation of toy guns was the response of the PNP to the occurrence of hold up and robbery cases involving the use of guns, and also children who mistake real guns for toy guns, resulting in accidental firing and oftentimes death.

The confiscated gun replicas are now stored at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. storage in Bacolod City.*GPB
