| The Bacolod City government resumed its dredging operations in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City , at about 3 p.m. yesterday, Bacolod Councilor Roberto Rojas said.
Rojas said the dredging will concentrate first on the Kimara Association so that the area could be ready for the relocation of displaced residents of Purok Mahimulaton in Banago. He said there are about 14 families from Purok Mahimulaton who have decided to transfer to the Kimara Association area, and have already paid their entrance fees, using the financial assistance given by the city.
Majority have chosen to be relocated to the boulevard site in Banago, while only a few chose to transfer to the Vista Alegra-Granada relocation site.
Rojas said the preparation of the Kimara site may take between three to five days to complete.
The city government rented the Watermaster dredging machine of Sipalay City , which can also perform as a backhoe, for the dredging of the waterways in the city to address the flooding problem.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Sipalay has an ordinance that pegged the rental rates at P3,600 per hour, but because of its generosity for Bacolod , it is only charging the city P3,000 per hour.
Rojas said Sipalay Vice Mayor Oscar Montilla told him that they are giving the first five days of operation as a “Christmas gift” to the city.
Leonardia said the Sipalay government lent the equipment to Bacolod City although the contract for its rental is still being processed.*CGS
