| Cop in shooting
of man restricted The police officer tagged in the shooting of a man in Bacolod City Thursday has been restricted to camp for further investigation, his superior said yesterday.
Supt. Celestino Guara issued an order to Inspector Rie Gumban, 61st Provincial Mobile Group chief, directing that PO2 Ernie Jaminal be restricted at the Negros Occidental Police Office, in the city, until further notice.
Jaminal, 39, of Purok Kabulakan, Brgy. Mandalagan, in Bacolod , allegedly shot Oliver Celis on the back when the latter attacked him with a butcher's knife in Purok Pilit 2, Brgy. 6, in the city, at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday, police records show.
Jaminal, however, told investigators that he just defended himself after responding to a commotion between Celis and a number of unidentified persons who were having a drinking spree in Purok Pilit 2.
Although he identified himself as a law enforcer, he said he was attacked by Celis, prompting him to shoot, Jaminal said.
Case investigator, SPO1 Hermilo Jalandoni had earlier said that Jaminal fired a warning shot first before shooting Celis who became unruly with his drinking buddies.
Gumban said that the family of Celis will file charges against Jaminal.*PP
