Vagrant found dead
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

An 85-year-old vagrant who has been loitering in the city's streets for years was found dead in Bacolod City Wednesday, the Anti Mendicancy Group said yesterday.

The body of Rosario Mahilum of Calatrava town, Negros Occidental, was found by group member, Franklin Santocildes, at the Bahay Pag-asa nine days after she was brought there, police records showed.

Edgardo Cañada, team leader of the AMG, said that they decided to bury her body, as they do not have the resources to put up a wake for her.

Mahilum was rescued from a bus terminal at Lopez Jaena Street , in the city on December 3 and was scheduled to be brought to the hospital before she died, Cañada said.

The group said they have been taking turns in caring for people like Mahilum, including bathing them, to ensure their welfare after they are rescued from the city's streets.

Those who have families, however, are brought to their homes because the group said, they can only do so much in taking care of them and in looking for funds to support them.

Last month, a male vagrant who was brought by the AMG there, was also found dead at Bahay Pag-asa.*PP
