| Gov. Joseph Marañon yesterday said he and the congressmen of Negros Occidental are set to meet soon to come up with a common stand on the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
During the meeting the governor will present to the solons the findings of a study he commissioned to evaluate how CARP has faired in Negros Occidental.
We will come up with a common stand based on the information gathered from the ground, he said.
In October partial results of the study showed that of the 61,375 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Negros Occidental, 59 percent, or 36,039, were still tilling the land and 41 percent or 25,336 were no longer tilling the land.
The Capitol has yet to release the final results of the study that will be presented to the President, the House and the Senate.
The CARP expires next year and whether actual land distribution should be continued after, is up for debate in Congress.*CPG
